You work hard to keep your teeth healthy and strong. Unfortunately, sometimes life throws you a curve ball, and you end up with a chipped tooth. Whether it’s due to some sort of trauma, such as an accident or fall, or whether you just bit into something the wrong way, sometimes you find yourself with a chipped tooth. Here’s what you can do about it.
Come see us right away.
The first thing you should do is come in and see us. At River Valley Smile Center, we work hard to keep our patients’ mouths strong and healthy. When you have a chip in a tooth, there is the chance that it could lead to complications down the line if it is not addressed.
We need to take a look at the tooth and determine just how bad the damage is. It could be very minor and only require a simple fix, or it could be something major that requires immediate corrective action. Let us take a look and find out.
Your options range from a filling to a veneer or crown.
If the chip is only a minor surface matter, we may be able to repair the tooth using a filling or bonding. To do this, we use a special tooth-colored resin to fill in the chipped area and make your tooth whole again. Once we’re finished you won’t be able to tell that you have a filling or bonding in the area, and with proper care it should last you for years.
If the chip is more significant, we may suggest a veneer to completely cover the front surface of the tooth. We can attach a porcelain cover over the tooth to help restore and protect it.
If the damage is severe, we may suggest a crown to go completely over the top of the tooth. Crowns, as with veneers, should resemble your natural tooth and will be virtually indistinguishable from your other teeth once the process is completed.
