Your teeth are a crucial part of your digestive system; without them, your body would be unable to extract all the necessary nutrients it needs from the food you eat. As such, it’s important that you do everything you can to take care of them. Of course, brushing and flossing on a regular basis are indispensable to proper oral health, as are regular visits to our office for a professional cleaning. On top of all these things, you can help keep your teeth healthy by eating the right kinds of food. Here’s more information.
Eat lots of leafy green vegetables.
Did you know that you can actually strengthen your teeth by eating the proper kinds of foods? Leafy green vegetables such as spinach and kale contain significant amounts of calcium and folic acid. Your teeth use these materials to remain strong and resistant to decay.
Pumpkin seeds!
A classic fall food, roasted pumpkin seeds aren’t just tasty: they’re great for your oral health, too! Pumpkin seeds are high in phosphorus, a mineral that is used in the hard outer enamel layer of your teeth. Eat plenty of this healthy snack to keep your teeth strong and healthy.
Apples keep the dentist away, too!
You’ve heard that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Well, the same goes for your dentist! We love seeing you on your regularly scheduled cleaning visits, but we’d rather not have to see you for follow up appointments to install fillings or perform other repair work.
When you eat apples, the slightly abrasive texture actually helps to clean the surface of your teeth. Plus, they are high in water and stimulate saliva flow, lowering the acid levels in your mouth. So grab an apple and eat to your (dental) health!
