Managing oral hygiene is one of the best things you can do for yourself–you will both feel better and minimize the risk of damage to your teeth and gums in the long run. In spite of this, some don’t put enough importance on oral hygiene, which puts their mouth at risk of oral health problems in the future. We wanted to give you a few ways to significantly improve your oral health so you can have a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Flossing
Flossing is relatively underrated among many people. We encourage that all patients floss once per day to get rid of hidden plaque or food that gets left in between your teeth after brushing. Doing this will help fight against built up plaque that eventually turns into tartar.
Brushing Twice Per Day
The most important way to maintain healthy teeth and gums is to brush twice a day. We recommend that you use a soft-bristled toothbrush that fits in your hand comfortably so that you can reach the back of the mouth easily, The universal amount of time it should take to brush is 2 minutes, this will be plenty of time to get a thorough clean and avoid missing spots. To make it easier to time your brushing, there are electric toothbrushes on the market that will run for two minutes at a time so you know when it is time to stop.
Remembering to brush your teeth everyday will:
- Remove harmful bacteria that cause cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay.
- Fight bad breath.
- Make your teeth whiter.
- Leave you feeling refreshed.
