Many people only worry about the foods they eat when it comes to keeping their mouths healthy. The truth is, what you drink can be just as important, if not more so. Summertime, people like to indulge a bit more with fun drinks to cool off with, but not all of them are really good for you to be drinking, in terms of keeping your mouth healthy. Here are some drinks we do recommend you drink in order to keep your mouth healthy between visits.
Great Summer Beverages to Have On Hand
Everyone has heard the adage that we are all to drink eight glasses of water per day, and your mouth will love you for it. When you drink a lot of water, it helps to dilute anything that is building up in your mouth from the foods you have been eating. For example, having water with a meal with a lot of citrus, which erodes your teeth, allows the acid to be diluted and your mouth to be a bit safer until you are able to get your teeth brushed.
Milk is another great option when it comes to drinking this summer. The calcium it provides allows you to help keep your teeth strong, and fortifies any weak spots that may be starting to develop within your mouth. Plus, it helps to keep your bones strong, including your jawbone, which helps keep your teeth strong as well.
Another option that is great for cooling off during the summer is cool unsweetened tea. You don’t want to add in sugars that are going to damage your mouth, and you do not want it to be iced down out of fear you may give in to the temptation of chewing on the cubes. Just cool enough to take the heat out of the air is plenty. Consider using a straw when drinking unsweet tea to reduce staining.
