Invasive dental procedures are going to leave your mouth a little sore for a few days. There are some things that are going to be expected of you, such as putting pressure on the area if you were bleeding at all and not chewing on anything hard, but there are also things that you are going to be expected to avoid after your procedure. Here are a few of the things that you should try and avoid after having any type of dental procedure done.
What You Need to Avoid After Dental Procedures
Since you only had your mouth worked on, the rest of your body should be working like normal, right? Not so fast. You need to make sure that at least the day you have the procedure done, you are taking it easy. Your feet moving, such as by going for a jog, or your body working, such as by lifting and moving furniture, may not seem like they will affect your mouth, but they will. They get your blood pumping faster, which not only can cause excess bleeding, but it can also cause more swelling and pain in the area where you had the procedure done.
You also need to make sure that you are avoiding anything that could damage your mouth between you the time you leave our office and the time that your anesthetics wear off. Hot drinks could burn you, chewing on your tongue could cause damage, and even putting your fingers in your mouth could cause damage. Not only could you scratch yourself and not know it, you could also introduce bacteria that could hurt your mouth.
Sucking on anything the day of your dental procedure is never advised. You should avoid drinking out of a straw and smoking for a minimum of 24 hours following any type of a dental procedure.
When you have a dental procedure done, you need to take care of your mouth afterwards. The more you care for your mouth immediately after the procedure, the quicker your mouth is going to be able to heal. Take the time to take it easy for a day, and give your mouth the best start possible to healing after having any type of dental procedure – your mouth will be healthier for it.
